World of Heroes: Baghdad, Moscow, Tokyo
|
There is Baghdad--high-powered home to ancient sorcery, bioengineered
superhumans as weapons of mass destruction, and members of the Republican
Guard in advanced power armor. Above it all Saddam Hussein rules with an
iron fist while political, ethnic, and religious opposition groups all
consipre to unseat him to achieve their own ends. Game stats for characters
ranging from Saddam Hussein, Uday, and Qusay to Iraq's Unit 999, Saddam's
superhuman black ops unit, to members of the Anwar Allah, Islamic freedom
fighters. Adventure seeds center around assassination, political
manipulation, and possible all-out war.
There is Moscow--a lower-powered den of black marketeers, anarchy,
corruption, and in-fighting between superhuman warlords. Superhumans who
once served the Soviet cause now are gangsters, mercenaries, or vigilantes
fighting to protect the Russian people. Luxury can be had for a price,
while most Russians live in desperate poverty. In the black markets, former
KGB members sell secrets, illegal arms, and radioactive materials to the
highest bidder--and criminal masterminds from all over the world come to
shop.
There is Tokyo--highlighting the tension between superhumans as defenders of
humanity and as self-serving celebrities. The members of the media are
everywhere, looking to spread rumors, discover secret identities, and get
far too close when superhumans tussle to get that exclusive footage.
Newsgroups track each superhero's popularity from moment to moment and a
hero's agent tries to secure corporate sponsors and product placement to
make ends meet. Villains also get into the act by attracting fans and
waging wars against heroes in the court of public opinion. Get a new
haircut, a new costume, pec implants--it's all about style. What's more
important--stopping that mugging or scoring that coprorate sponsorship?
Kicking off the "World of Heroes" series of Superlink supplements for the
Mutants & Masterminds game system, "World of Heroes: Baghdad, Mascow,
Tokyo" provides in-depth coverage of these three cities based in reality but
then given the full "modern age" superhero treatment. Gamemasters will find
maps, treatment of the political, religious, and economic dynamics,
adventure seeds, and many fully-described NPC's, each a hero or villain
depending on a player's perspective, for each city.
