Rock'em Sock'em Shonen Robot Action!
|
Ken Ohmi sits in his command vehicle; they've been on stake out for hours. No activity inside the derelict warehouse they've been told to watch. An anonymous tip has led them to the seediest part of town, nobody was surprised by that. Ken sips his coffee and peeks through his binoculars. He has three ready mecha on standby. All there is to do now is wait.
Suddenly, the ground begins to shake. Ken puts his coffee down, it won't stop splashing. The north wall of the warehouse shakes, pushes outward, and then tumbles. Hovering there, not 50 meters away, is one of the most advanced hovering tanks Tokyo has seen to date. Hovering tanks have been the weapon of choice for 20 years, as the natural progression of tank technology incorporated electromagnets. Ken had to something; so he sorties his mecha.
"Move in on the target, unit 1." Ken orders Clyde, his best melee pilot.
Mecha were designed specifically to counteract hovering tanks. Their maneuverability and firepower are such that they can use the same tactics as an infantry assault, but with many fewer casualties.
Clyde moves in, piloting the standard police mecha. The tank releases a barrage of machine gun fire, as it tries to turn its main cannon at the threat. Clyde lands a blow with his baton, disabling the machine gun.
"Attack, unit 2." Ken orders Smitty, the squad rookie, to attack from the opposite side.
Smitty releases some pistol fire, blowing out one of the tank's periscopes. Clyde backs off, and waits for the signal.
"Are you ready, Clyde?" Asks Ken.
"Roger that." Responds Clyde.
"Unit 3, move in now!" Ken issues the command to his last team member
Burke moves in. She is the veteran of the team. Beautiful and strong, she'll bite your hand off before accepting help up from the ground. Clyde jets backward, right into the path of the tank's main cannon. Smitty backs off, and Burke leaps up behind him.
The tank's electromagnetic hover engine reverses polarity, pinning itself to the ground. The anchor force allows the tank to charge up and fire its main cannon. Clyde still doesn't flinch. Burke is swooping down, baton drawn and ready. The tank's cannon lights up, charging to its full power. It is rumored that this prototype's cannon has the concentrated destructive capability of a battlefield nuclear weapon. Ken hears Clyde chuckle over the radio. Burke lets out a battle cry. The tank fires its cannon, the night sky lights up. Ken notices a particularly pleasing shade of purple near the moon. Burke lands her blow, the split second of reduced power from the main cannon was plenty to break through the energy shields around the tank's cockpit. The blow effectively explodes the tank. The cannon shot still flies toward Clyde. Clyde chuckles again as he gracefully evades the beam of death coming straight at him.
The support team arrives shortly thereafter, and they pick up the pieces from the battle. The two surviving crew members were promptly arrested at Tokyo community hospital. Ken congratulates his team on a mission well done, and treats them to an early breakfast at the barracks.
