[11/18/03] Steel Roses have taken root!

[10/21/03] Our Fearless Leader Speaks!

As no doubt you can tell by the rapid growth of our products pages, there has been a lot of change going on at Seraphim Guard. The number of writers we have under contract to produce new material is growing by leaps and bounds, and we don't anticipate it stopping anytime soon. Some of our new products are closer to fruition than others, but all look very exciting.

On a disappointing note, I have had the HeartQuest 2nd Edition page taken down from the website. This should not, however, be takes as a sign of bad news for the project. A new contract has been signed regarding the project, and a press release on it will be forthcoming which I will have posted to this website as soon as it is ready. Until then, rest assured the project is not dead - just undergoing a change of direction due in part to circumstances beyond anyone's control.

The exciting thing, of course, is all the new games! It constantly amazes me how many people are eager to write for a fledgeling company like Seraphim Guard that caters to a niche market.  Our entry into the superhero business with World of Heroes and Lady Pain is showing exceptional promise. I've seen the manuscript of Anthony Fod's Steel Roses - it's going to be a great book, and if Mecha Aces (which he is also writing) is just as good, then things look bright for Mecha's future with this company. We've had vigorous debates about systems, especially when it comes to supernormal powers in HeartQuest and magic in the upcoming Spell-Slingers & Sword-Saints fantasy RPG, but overall things look promising for both projects. If everybody keeps to their deadlines and works at a decent pace then Seraphim Guard's line will be growing by leaps and bounds in 2004, both in quantity, but hopefully in quality and ultimately in popularity.

To those who have supported us and continue to support us, thanks from the bottom of my heart. To those who are curious, try our games. The HeartQuest Lite giveaway has been a tremendous success in terms of number of downloads, and we've just launched two new play-by-post HeartQuest games on our message boards that still have room for players (in the case of my Sendai Academy game, LOTS of room). All you really need to play is HeartQuest Lite, although having the full game will be a big help and clarify your skill choices a lot more.

Don't forget sponsorships! They provide useful seed money to get individual projects off the ground and carry the company through the lean sales times between the release of new products. It costs us at least $100 just to lay out a new product, not to mention what we pay artists and the costs of things like web access. Sales can make up most of it, but during lulls in the product cycle sales could be much better.

Ally, don't forget to support our friends at Alter Ego Software, Grey Ghost Games and Politically Incorrect Games! Alter Ego's HeartQuest character generator (part of their FUDGE template) is a wonderful tool that I am trying to get to all our writers. I'm sure you'll find it extremely useful as well. Grey Ghost's FUDGE lines add a lot of crunchy bits that can easily be incorporated into any of our games - and many oif our unique elements can be incorporated into your FUDGE game as well, so there's a symbiotic relationship here. The same goes for PIG's Active Exploits and HeartQuest Diceless, which has received the most favorable reviews of any HeartQuest product to date and is especially good for your online shoujo gaming.

Don't forget our mailing lists and message board either! You can be part of the Seraphim Guard community and be an active participant in the development of many of our products. We are always on the lookout for fresh ideas, honest critiques, and general fannish goodness.

Enjoy your stay at our site, and please - try the fish!

[04/29/03] And the Ideas Just Keep on Coming

One of the problems with running a game company is that you keep coming up with these ideas. But since having come up with the ideas is why I started the game company in the first place, it's only natural that I would want to explore them.

The newest idea Seraphim Guard is exploring is an online convention unlike any I personally have experienced. Technocon would be a Gaming convention, but so much more. It would also be a Science Fiction convention, a Fantasy convention and an Anime convention. I'm even planning a Lyric Exchange to replace the traditional convention filkings at live conventions. And yes, Technocon would be 100% virtual, with chat rooms, party rooms, online role-playing, and a Vendors' Section that will, if all goes well, include anime/manga vendors, bookstores and game publishers.

We'll have guests from various fandom-related industries giving panels. We'll have publishers running their games. We'll have gamemasters from general fandom running games of every description. Hopefully we'll have a Diplomacy tournament. We can't really run videos or music, but we can discuss video and music. We'll have plenty of opportunities for fans to get together online and discuss whatever.

Vendors would buy "booth space" that links to their RPGNow sites or webpages and get a free membership in addition. The convention will run 24/7 and be convenient for every fan all over the world.

But these details are not set in stone. We are currently looking for input on how to make Technocon work, and 'location' has yet to be determined. I've set up a mailing list for people to comment on plans, get more information, and offer assistance and ideas. Just go to Mailing List Central on this site and follow the Technocon link.

On related notes; HeartQuest Diceless is on schedule for a May release. HeartQuest Second Edition is still on schedule for a late June/early July release. We are making substantial progress on Fuzz: the Furry Police RPG. Ghost Tamer Miyaki is proceeding nicely. And the ideas just keep on coming. Money to come with them would be nice, but hopefully that will be remedied once books start coming out at a higher pace. And visit RPGNow.com for your last chance to pick up the original versions of HeartQuest and Musical Mistresses at bargain-basement prices!

[04/29/03] Seraphim Guard's Newest Project is Good for a Laugh

Two months of negotiations have come to fruition. Seraphim Guard has made an agreement with NDP Comics to produce a comedic roleplaying game based on their "As Told By?" manga series of funny fairy tales.

NDP Comics is a American manga publisher based in Seattle, Washington. Their titles are sold all over the world, and their fans are quite loyal. Seraphim Guard looks forward to the opportunity to produce this, our first licensed game, and the chance to work with this highly creative company.

"As Told By?." will be a game where the players take a traditional fairy tale and twist it beyond recognition. It is based on a manga series which does that to fairly tales, starting with Rapunzel and moving on to Goldilocks and more coming soon.

The contract says we have eighteen months from today to release the game. Hopefully we'll get it done much sooner than that!

[04/17/03] Going Where the Dice Can't

Have you ever wanted to roleplay someplace where you simply can't take dice? Ever wondered if that guy on the other side of the country really rolled that "natural 20"?

Well, that may not be a problem anymore -- if you're playing HeartQuest, that is. We've found another way to play the game and are getting ready to release a new book called HeartQuest Diceless. This game is played using Politically Incorrect Games' Active Exploits engine and contains all the shoujo goodness you will find in the HeartQuest roleplaying game. Just without the dice!

As with all our other books we are taking sponsors for HeartQuest Diceless. But you'll have to hurry! We're looking at a mid-May release and will be taking sponsors for only two weeks. If you want your chance at diceless immortality, step right up!

This game will be released exclusively through RPGNow.com.
