HeartQuest Second Edition: Anime Role-Playing in the World of Shoujo Manga
|
"It's coming.", said Akane, readying an ofuda. The young shrine maiden braced
herself for what she was certain would be a devastating mystic attack.
"I sense it too, but what is it?" Miyaki felt a momentary arc of tension in
her back as a sense of wrongness crept over her. The setting of the school
gym was familiar enough, but something was definitely amiss. Something was - here.
Akane chanted a quick prayer to the kami and let fly with the ofuda. A barrier,
invisible to the eye but tangible nonetheless, formed in front of them. Shadows
struck at it with blinding speed, in shapes that neither of the girls could
recognize. The barrier sparked, crackled, and then fell in a shower of sparkling
lights.
The shadow thing stood before them now. It was taller than a man and stouter
by half. The only white it showed was a set of sharp, pearly teeth that almost
glowed with malevolence.
Suddenly a figure in black stood between the girls and the creature. He was
wearing his customary back fedora and suit, and a bandana covered the lower
part of his face. He clutched a birthmark on his hand. "Sword of the Masters,
come to my hand!" Suddenly an ornate blade was in his hand and he assumed a
defensive posture. He turned his head back to see Akane looking scared and
Miyaki looking slightly awestruck.
He shouted in frustration. "Miyaki! Ghost Tamer! What the Hell are you
waiting for? TRANSFORM!"
HeartQuest is a roleplaying game of romance, intrigue and
adventure in the worlds of shoujo manga. The game covers the vast variety of the
shoujo field, from teen romance stories and magical girl adventures to fantastic
quests in bizarre new worlds.
HeartQuest was created using the flexible and elegant
FUDGE system.
Now, Second Edition includes rules for using the popular
d20
Modern ruleset to let you play a naive
schoolgirl looking for her first love, a powerful magical girl saving the world
from elemental evil, a suave and mysterious bishonen, or any other shoujo
character you can imagine as well! Form lasting relationships with other characters,
both player and non-player. Find the one love worth sacrificing everything for,
or leave a trail of broken hearts in your wake. Face evils you cannot begin to
imagine, or the horrors of the all-important high school entrance exams. Travel
to fantastic worlds, or cram yourself into a crowded bullet train to shop in Shinjuku.
